A short story about how we came to operate a B&B in Lake Tekapo, New Zealand. After 15 years living with the cold in Queenstown Ann-Maree travelled to Kakadu in the Northern Territory of Australia in 1997 seeking a change of scene. Meanwhile a young (ish) Sab Lord was starting to make a name for himself tour guiding in Kakadu. Cue forward to 1999 and fate having bought us together – we took over Sabs father John Lords tour Company then named ‘Lord of Kakadu’ and starting working for ourselves rebranding as Lords Kakadu & Arnhemland Safaris.
As the Wet season in the tropics is our down time we holidayed often near Tekapo at Lake Alexandrina. Having fallen in love with NZ (and who wouldn’t really !) by 2013 Sab was thinking about looking for a B&B in Queenstown but fate (once again ) bought us to Tekapo -we found our kiwi quarter acre with The View and began to plan our dream B&B. Once again things took a turn when Qantas were offering voluntary redundancy and Ann-Maree was lucky enough to get this in 2014. Fast forward and Ranginui B&B was born in 2018.
We have both worked in hospitality in various roles for over thirty years, which gives us an intuitive understanding of our guests’ needs, also we have both been very fortunate to have travelled to a number of countries and we are passionate about sharing our piece of New Zealand paradise with our guests. We are both mad keen walkers so can share personal recommendations of the various walkways in the Mackenzie district. Our mission is to make your stay in Lake Tekapo – the most beautiful part of New Zealand in our humble opinion – a memorable one for all the right reasons.
Sab still operates his tours in the Northern Territory from May to October, so you can join the likes of Boris Johnson and Nicolas Cage to experience Kakadu, Arnhem Land and The Kimberley.
Its been a rough year and we cant WAIT to welcome you to Ranginui.
