We hear you, “Tekapo a small town”, “there’s not much to do”, “it’s a nice stopover enroute to Christchurch/Queenstown”. Well we here at Ranginui respectfully disagree. The Mackenzie region has so much to offer particularly for lovers of beautiful scenery, hikers, photographers, wedding planners and of course our famous night skies.
Presenting What To Do in Tekapo for 72 hours
Itinerary Day One; Arrive at Ranginui B&B, check in and say WOW (all our guests do ), get settled in, maybe a glass of local wine or a cuppa on the balcony. Definitely make your friends jealous by posting some photos of the view on social media (don’t forget to tag us #ranginuibnb ). Dinner at the Fabulous Kohan Japanese restaurant. Maybe a soak in the hot pools or go on a star gazing tour with Silver River, Tekapo Springs or Earth and Sky.
Itinerary Day Two; After enjoying an amazing breakfast consisting of seasonal fruits, yogurts, homemade muesli and or a cooked breakfast with fresh local farm eggs, drag yourself away from the view for the stunning drive past Lake Pukaki to Mt Cook. The more energetic can take the Hooker Valley Track for some amazing vistas and a beautiful three hour walk. There are also shorter walks to the terminal lake (where the icebergs are ) and up to the lookout. On the way home drive to the top of Mt John to the Astro Cafe, pop into Lake Alexandrina for a few photos then back to your accommodation for a cooling beverage. Dinner at Blue Lake (our favourite).
