hoar-frost

Tekapo usually misses out on the winter fog that plagues other areas in the Mackenzie basin – not this year though ! Mother nature has put on a real show with Hoar Frost (freezing fog ) for the past few days here in the Mackenzie. Tekapo was breathtakingly beautiful for a few days – more so than usual ! The frost clung to everything, and with the village of Lake Tekapo currently exhibiting a winter wonderland theme it was really the icing on the cake. Although most visitors visit in summer to be honest winter is so beautiful because the days are often clear and calm, the lake is like a millpond some days and other days like today its windy and wild and SO turquoise. With Roundhill Skifield, (New Zealands BEST learner skifield ) a 40 minute drive from Tekapo ( you can see the ski field from here at Ranginui ), and Tekapo Springs offering ice skating, snow tubing and hot pools its your dream winter destination. And very rarely are there queues for the ski lifts. Plan your winter escape to Tekapo.
